The Baldwins: Alec Baldwin breaks down recalling Halyna Hutchins shooting in trailer for new series

A new reality show starring 30 Rock actor Alec Baldwin includes emotional scenes of the star talking about the impacts of the fatal on-set shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Titled The Baldwins, the TLC series follows Oscar winner Alec and his wife Hilaria as they navigate showbusiness while parenting their seven children.

In a sneak peek trailer shown on Monday (US time), the couple sit on their couch while talking about their family, becoming visibly upset when Hutchins is mentioned.

Hutchins, a mother of one, died aged 42 on the set of Baldwin’s movie Rust in 2021 after she was accidentally shot and killed by a gun being used as a prop that was fired by Baldwin.

“A son lost his mum in the most unthinkable tragedy. This is never something to forget, and we are trying to parent through it,” Hilaria says to the camera as Alec, 66, covers his face and appears to break down in tears.

“Honestly, from the bottom of my soul, I don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t have you and these kids,” Baldwin replies to his wife.

The couple share seven children together: Carmen, 11, Rafael, 9, Leonardo, 8, Romeo, 6, Eduardo, 4, Maria, 3, and Ilaria, 2.

They have been in a relationship since 2011 and got married the following year.

After the shooting incident, Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter, however the charges were dismissed after a lengthy trial process last year.

Armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months in prison.

The actor first spoke about Hutchins during a tense standoff with paparazzi soon after charges for the shooting were filed.

“She was my friend. The day I arrived on set and started shooting I took her to dinner with Joel, the director,” he said.

“We were a very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together and then this horrible event happened”.

He also later told Variety that the incident was “the most difficult thing I’ve ever dealt with in my life”.

“Beyond the victims themselves, the thing that most pains me is what it did to my wife. My wife has been very, very traumatised from this. There has been a lot of pain,” he said.

“When you are married to somebody, and everything was going fairly well and we had seven kids ... and the floor falls out.”

In an official press release for The Baldwins, TLC described the show as “what life is really like for the Baldwins — chaotic, funny, exhausting and filled with love".

It is also said to contain “moments that showcase their deep partnership as they navigate challenges hand in hand”.
