"I had a boyfriend in London and then my visa expired and I had to move home, so we broke up...It was the classic Kiwi-in-London story, it's a bit clichéd really."
Returning to London for a visit five months on, she found she was too late - her man had met someone else. Matilda admits the way she feels about Art is the strongest she's felt for man in her life since then.
"I can really envisage a fun future...that it would be areally fun, active life with lots of laughs, and you can't really ask for much more than that."
Who will win the final rose?
Last night's episode of The Bachelor NZ saw three become two as one girl's dream of finding true love was shattered.
After a romance filled trip to the Gold Coast Art Green was forced to send one of his final three girls packing. Unfortunately for Invercargill girl Alysha it was time to leave the beach and head back to the deep south.
This was the episode many had been waiting for - the overnight stays. But would the girls cave to the temptation of spending the night with Art's abs, or would they take the moral high ground?
First to go on her dream date was Dani who, after a surfing lesson, was wined and dined onboard a luxury yacht. After some serious contemplation Dani accepted Art's offer to stay onboard for the night. Only after the pair were sure to let the NZ public know they wouldn't be taking their physical relationship to the next level.
Next up was Matilda who was treated to a trip on a Venetian looking gondola before indulging in a spot of fine dining in a penthouse apartment. Conscious of the fact Art is still dating two other girls Matilda chose to decline the offer of a sleepover.
And lucky (or not so) last was Alysha who was once again treated to a helicopter trip. Flying to a luxury lodge in the mountains the pair soaked up the views in a hot tub before enjoying drinks and nibbles on the balcony. Not wanting to look back and have any regrets Alysha chose to spend the night with Art.
Will we ever know what happened once the cameras stopped rolling though?
The penultimate rose ceremony was perhaps the most tense and drawn out yet. With Matilda receiving the first rose Dani and Alysha were left to sweat it out together for a few minutes. Ultimately though someone had to go and with her head held high Alysha said goodbye.
Fans of the show will be on tenterhooks today - and not all those biting their nails are female. Producers released a video of men watching The Bachelor, and it is as enjoyable as the show itself. Someone should think about changing the format if there is a second series.
• We will be live blogging the final here on nzherald.co.nz tonight from 7pm.
