Sophie Grégoire Trudeau on ex-husband Justin Trudeau’s relationship with Katy Perry

Sophie Grégoire Trudeau has spoken candidly about her relationship with and split from former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as he moves on with Katy Perry.

Amid confirmation her estranged husband and the pop star are officially dating, the former television personality opened up about how she deals with life in the spotlight, the Daily Mail reports.

On the November 13 episode of podcast Arlene Is Alone: The Single Life, Sophie admitted living in the public eye is difficult, but she chooses to “listen to the music, not the noise”.

“Does it mean that I don’t have emotions? That I don’t cry, scream, laugh? No.”, she told host Arlene Dickinson.

“I’ll let myself be disappointed by someone. I’ll let myself be angry, be sad. I know for a fact how important it is as a mental health advocate to feel those emotions.”

The 50-year-old said she had learned not to be reactive to her feelings because “the woman I want to become through this is my decision”.

She and Justin announced they were separating in August 2023, according to the BBC.

They had been together for 18 years and share three children – Xavier, 18, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11.

In a statement released at the time of their split, the former couple stated they planned to work together to parent amicably.

“We remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other and for everything we have built and will continue to build.”

Sophie explicitly discussed her co-parenting relationship with Justin on the episode, expanding upon their approach to their shared family.

“I’m definitely not a single mom. I have a partnership with a father who has such deep love and availability to his children.

“We call each other up. We’ll text each other... We will really try to build cohesion, so that the kids feel that cohesion... We have separate lives, but we have one family life.”

While she shared her “hurt” at the break-up when speaking at a wellness summit last year, Sophie has publicly maintained that she has a friendly dynamic with her ex.

Katy and Justin were first romantically linked in July, when they were spotted sharing a meal at a local restaurant in Montreal.

Pictures of the pair kissing on a yacht leaked in September, before they made their official debut as a couple last month when they stepped out together in Paris for Katy’s birthday.

The Hot N Cold” singer reportedly “never saw” the relationship with the 53-year-old coming, “but she’s really enjoying this surprising life twist”, a source told People.

She broke off her engagement with actor Orlando Bloom in July after they welcomed daughter Daisy Dove together in 2020.

“Katy didn’t expect to fall for somebody so soon, but Justin checks all the boxes,” another insider said, “he has a great sense of humour, he’s charming and treats her with respect.”
