A mistake on the Gisborne Herald front page went viral. Now Spike Lee has responded. Photos / AP / Getty
A mistake by the Gisborne Herald has accidentally made its front page go viral, with the paper writing Spike Lee when they meant to pay tribute to Marvel superhero creator Stan Lee.
The front page of the regional paper was shared on social media by people all over the world,who pointed out that Spike Lee was very much still alive.
He wrote: "Legend. Godspeed Stan, I feel blessed to have known you. You made this place better and brought joy to everyone you met. Rest In Peace."
Fellow Marvel star Chris Evans also tweeted, saying: "There will never be another Stan Lee...He exuded love and kindness and will leave an indelible mark on so, so, so many lives."
Various other stars and creators took to Twitter to share how Stan Lee's work changed their lives, including Marvel's long-time comic book rival, DC Comics.
"He changed the way we look at heroes, and modern comics will always bear his indelible mark. His infectious enthusiasm reminded us why we all fell in love with these stories in the first place. Excelsior, Stan."
