'Not yet': Spike Lee responds to Gisborne Herald

A mistake by the Gisborne Herald has accidentally made its front page go viral, with the paper writing Spike Lee when they meant to pay tribute to Marvel superhero creator Stan Lee.

The front page of the regional paper was shared on social media by people all over the world, who pointed out that Spike Lee was very much still alive.

Time and The Huffington Post were among the international publications that wrote about the front page mistake.

Now, the Do The Right Thing director has addressed the blunder on his Instagram account.

"God Bless Stan Lee. Me? Not Yet. And Dat's Da "I'm Still A Live, And Strivin'" Truth,Ruth. YA-DIG? SHO-NUFF," he posted on Instagram.

Stan Lee passed away November 12, aged 95, after battling complications from pneumonia.

People all over the world continue to pay tribute to the comic book genius and honouring his service to the entertainment industry.

Kiwi star Karl Urban, who recently starred as Skurge in Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok, was among many to share their thoughts.

He wrote: "Legend. Godspeed Stan, I feel blessed to have known you. You made this place better and brought joy to everyone you met. Rest In Peace."

Fellow Marvel star Chris Evans also tweeted, saying: "There will never be another Stan Lee...He exuded love and kindness and will leave an indelible mark on so, so, so many lives."

Various other stars and creators took to Twitter to share how Stan Lee's work changed their lives, including Marvel's long-time comic book rival, DC Comics.

"He changed the way we look at heroes, and modern comics will always bear his indelible mark. His infectious enthusiasm reminded us why we all fell in love with these stories in the first place. Excelsior, Stan."
