Youth festival
Youth arts festival ignite2001 continues with Stepping into Leadership - how to prove yourself a leader by way of Shakespeare's Henry V. The event happens from 9 am to noon in the Goodman Fielder Room, Aotea Centre. Entry is free. Tigers, Timber and Trouble: Wealth Creation and Careers from Biodiversity is a free lecture by Professor Ian Swingland from 6 pm to 8 pm in the reception lounge, Auckland Town Hall.
Roadworks
State Highway 20's southbound Onehunga Road off-ramp will be closed from 9 pm to 5 am for road resurfacing, Transit New Zealand reports.
Power trust
The Counties Power Consumer Trust is calling for nominations for two elected positions before the closing date of next Tuesday. Nomination forms are available from the Counties Power offices in Glasgow Rd, Pukekohe, or by calling 0800 922-822. The postal election will begin on July 20.

The All Whites play their first match of the Oceania World Cup qualifying tournament against Tahiti, in the North Harbour Stadium at 12.45 pm. The Cook Islands will play Vanuatu at 2.45 pm.
Another day ...
American suffragette Susan Anthony was arrested today in 1872 for voting. Her lawyer stopped the issue being decided by the Supreme Court, then the judge told the jury to convict her without discussion. When she refused to pay her fine, the judge would not jail her, denying her an appeal. She fought the issue until her death in 1906, 14 years before American women got the vote.
