Assault charges against two Wanganui men were upgraded to murder yesterday after the victim of a central city attack died in Wanganui Hospital.
Father of six Paul Ross Amer, aged 41, died on Sunday night after being injured in a fight early on Sunday.
Kelvin Martin Kumeroa, 20, unemployed, made no plea to the murder charge when he appeared in the Wanganui District Court.
A 16-year-old, who also did not plead to the same charge, was given automatic name suppression when he appeared in the Youth Court.
Judge Andrew Becroft remanded the teenager into the custody of the Department of Child, Youth and Family.
When asked by Judge Becroft if he would like to say anything, the 16-year-old tearfully apologised to his family sitting in the public gallery.
Kumeroa and the youth were remanded until July 21 for a predepositions conference.
