Linda Perry slams Lady Gaga for Oscar nod, then backtracks

Linda Perry has apologised for saying Lady Gaga doesn't deserve her Oscar nomination.

The 50-year-old songwriter had said she thought Diane Warren should solely be given credit for Til It Happens To You - which is up for Best Original Song at next month's Academy Awards - because she thought the Poker Face had only written one line of the track.

However, after her comments made headlines worldwide, Perry took to Twitter on to set the record straight about what she meant.

My sincere apologies. I made a mistake to comment. I wasn't in the room when the #TIHTY was being written.

She tweeted: "My sincere apologies. I made a mistake to comment. I wasn't in the room when the #TIHTY was being written. More importantly, I wish the focus to remain on the great importance of the song and the message of the film."

Til It Happens To You features in the documentary movie The Hunting Ground, which tackles issues surrounding campus rapes in American educational institutions.

Perry had formerly suggested Gaga's involvement in the track was just a way to garner some buzz around the song, and the full credit should really be given to Diane Warren.

She had tweeted: "Normally I wouldn't respond to all this but I don't know Im feeling spunky. There was another artist that originally was gonna sing #TIHTY.

"I have Diane's original demo with her singing. The only line that has been changed "Till you're at the end, the end of your rope"

"Originally was "TIL YOU GOT A HOLE RIPPED IN YOUR SOUL". So I guess technically one line was changed so sure Gaga possibly "rewrote" a line.'

"But chances are Diane still took part in rewriting that line which means Gaga contributed a few words. Is that writing? Not in my book.(sic)"

Warren later took to her own Twitter page to insist Gaga's involvement was more than changing just one line. Gaga retweeted Diane's messages but has yet to comment on the situation herself.
