My Secret Auckland: Actor Jessica Robinson shares her favourite spots in the city

In this Herald on Sunday series, we ask well-known Aucklanders for their favourite spots in the city. This week, actor and performer Jessica Robinson takes us on a tour of her top places.

Favourite beach?

I am a ridiculous human who does not drive so I keep things pretty local. I love all the beaches along Herne Bay and have spent many hours at them all.

I also love Point Chev. It’s a perfect beach for a walk and there is always a buzz there in summer. The views from the park above are it are breathtaking.

Favourite brunch spot?

Ripe Deli – I would gladly eat their food every day of the week and their sweet treats are dangerously good.

Favourite restaurant for dinner with friends?

I love sitting at the sheltered outdoor tables out the front at The Blue Breeze Inn at Ponsonby Central. The food, the cocktails and the setting all add up to a magical experience.

Favourite place to take a visitor to?

The Domain. I always feel inspired to make a tragically beautiful film there.

Favourite spot to finish a night out?

Depends on the night but I always have the most unpredictable fun nights at Verona on K’ Rd and when it’s a really big night there’s nothing like ending it with some karaoke at Saloon Bar. If I’m more in the mood for Ponsonby then it’s the dance floor at Ponsonby Social Club.

Favourite place to get coffee?

Ripe Deli and I will definitely be getting a sweet treat with that.

Favourite fish-and-chip shop?

Fishsmith in Herne Bay. There is often a bit of a wait but it’s always so worth it. Their fish tacos are insanely good.

Favourite trail for a hike?

Not sure if it counts as a hike but I love walking up Mt Eden. Another spectacular view and a great place to find a different perspective.

Favourite venue for a gig?

Depends, there are so many great venues, I think the best gig I’ve been to this year was Ladi6 at the Hollywood Avondale. She and the venue were sublime.

Favourite place to find a bargain?

I get most of my clothes on Trade Me and I love a good op shop. Have found some gorgeous clothes at Tatty’s over the years. Recycle Boutique is great for a bargain.
