My Kitchen Rules winners using prize to start family

Married Queensland couple Dan and Steph Mulheron will use their $250,000 windfall from winning reality cooking show My Kitchen Rules (MKR) to start a family.

The pair scored 54 points out of a possible 60 for their five course menu on Sunday night's grand final episode to defeat Sunshine Coast siblings Jake and Elle Harrison by two points.

Dan and Steph, from Hervey Bay, have made no secret of their struggle to start a family through IVF and their intention to use the win to fund further treatments.

They also have plans to one day open their own gourmet sausage shop.

The judges got a taste of what to expect when the couple served a delicious fish sausage during the final.

When the final scores were announced, Dan and Steph broke down.

"This is the start of our dreams, honestly, this is a dream come true," Dan, 32, said immediately after winning on Sunday night's show.

"We can start a family now.

"Tonight without a doubt has been the best night of our lives . . . without a doubt."

Steph said their lives would never the be the same.

"Our life and our future has totally changed from this moment," the 30-year-old said.

Jake, 20, and Elle, 22, showed cooking prowess well beyond their years and beat much more seasoned teams to make the grand final.

They have plans to open a supper club in Brisbane's CBD, release a cookbook and market Elle's special flavoured ice creams.

Elle said, even though they were second, they were proud to reach the final cook-off.

"It's such an achievement. We're the youngest team, but we've made it so far," Elle said during Sunday night's show.
