Margot Robbie has had a dramatic make-under — complete with an orange wig and receding hairline — for her new movie, Mary Queen of Scots.
The trailer for the Hollywood period drama, co-starring Saoirse Ronan, has been released today and Australian star Robbie, 28, is completely unrecognisable.
The Oscar-nominee playsQueen Elizabeth I while Ronan stars as her cousin Queen Mary of Scotland in the title role, set in the mid-1500s, reports news.com.au.
Robbie wears the full-on make-up look for her role as Elizabeth, who wore heavy white powder on her face to cover smallpox scars. The movie co-stars British actor Joe Alwyn (as Elizabeth's lover, Robert Dudley) — Alwyn is, of course, best known as Taylor Swift's boyfriend.
Australian actor Guy Pearce also has a role in the Josie Rourke-directed bio-pic.
This is not the first time Robbie — who is an ambassador for Chanel — has shed her usually glamorous image for a role.
She famously played disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding in I, Tonya, sporting frizzy blonde hair, yellow teeth and bad make-up, in a performance that earned her an Oscar nomination this year.
"The energy and vibe on set was so wonderful and collaborative," the I, Tonya star said in a statement.
"One of the first things Karl Lagerfeld said to me was that we never need to take ourselves too seriously.
"He has such a creative mind and he knows exactly what he wants and the minute he captured it, we were moving onto the next shot," she added, of working with Chanel designer Lagerfeld. "It was amazing."
Mary Queen of Scots is due to be released in December.
