Auckland's upcoming Laneway festival has lost one of its headlining acts just weeks before the event.
Lykke Li, the Swedish singer-songwriter who was billed as one of the biggest names performing at the January 26 festival, said she was "incredibly sorry" and cited exhaustion as the reason for her no-show.
"It's been a long time coming, but unfortunately tour life has caught up with me and it's been recommended that I take a break," she said in a statement that confirmed she was pulling out of all Laneway shows, including Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
"I'm devastated, but know I will return. Thank you for all the support, and I sincerely hope I can make it up to you at a later date."
Her spot on the hipster-friendly bill has been taken by three acts: American singer-songwriter Ariel Pink, Baltimore electronica artist Dan Deacon and Danish punk-rockers Ice Age.
They join FKA Twigs, St Vincent, Courtney Barnett, Belle and Sebastian, Banks, Royal Blood and Flying Lotus at the festival, held at Silo Park in Auckland's Wynyard Quarter.
The news may feel like deja vu to Laneway fans after Lorde pulled out of her headlining slot at the 2014 festival so she could attend the Grammy Awards. She made it up by winning two awards and performing a celebratory solo sideshow two days later.
Laneway is one of the biggest Auckland music events of the summer after the Big Day Out cancelled all 2015 shows. Other major acts scheduled to perform in Auckland in the coming months include the Foo Fighters, Drake and the Black Keys.
Dance titan Avicii will also headline the Future Sound System electronic festival at Mt Smart Stadium on February 27.
