Kiwi director Toa Fraser to helm Australian Netflix series Tidelands

Kiwi director Toa Fraser has begun production today on Tidelands, a new Australian Netflix original series.

The streaming service has revealed that Fraser, director of 6 Days and The Dead Lands, will direct the mystery series.

Tidelands follows a young woman named Cal McTeer (Charlotte Best of Puberty Blues) who returns to her home town of Orphelin Bay after 10 years in juvenile detention.

The mysterious town is home to a community of outcasts known as the Tidelanders who live in a hidden part of the bay.

An earlier press release from Netflix describes the Tidelanders as dangerous half-Sirens, half-humans who Cal must investigate after the body of a local fisherman washes ashore.

Also starring in the series is Kiwi actor Mattias Inwood, who starred in The Shannara Chronicles and Will, as well as Australian actors Aaron Jakubenko and Peter O'Brien.

Australian-based Spanish actress Elsa Pataky, who is married to Chris Hemsworth, will play the leader of the Tidelanders.

Written by Stephen M. Irwin (Secrets and Lies), Tidelands will consist of eight 50-minute episodes. The series will premiere globally on Netflix.

Fraser's star has been rising internationally, with the Kiwi director also set to take on episodes of Marvel's Netflix shows Daredevil and Iron Fist.

Fraser has also directed episodes of The Shannara Chronicles and Into the Badlands.
