Kim Kardashian, 36, and musician husband Kanye West, 40, have reportedly hired a surrogate to have their third child.

TMZ reports that the deal will cost the couple US$113,850 (NZ$157,420) - a decision the pair have made since discovering that Kim suffered from placenta accreta - a condition that makes another pregnancy life-threatening.

It's thought that the couple have used an agency to source a surrogate, and that they will pay her the US$45,000 (NZ$62,220) in 10 monthly instalments of US$4500 (NZ$6222); The initial deposit for this, that the married couple will pay the surrogate's agency, is said to be a whopping US$68,850 (NZ$95,200), according to Daily Mail.

TMZ also states that, should the pregnancy produce more than one child, the surrogate will receive an additional US$5000 (NZ$6900) per extra child (US$5000 extra for twins, US$10,000 [NZ$13,820] extra for triplets and so forth).

If the surrogate loses reproductive organs during the process, she will be paid US$4000 (NZ$5530), it is reported.

With the surrogacy comes the conditions that the employed woman doesn't smoke, drink alcohol, take drugs and not have sexual intercourse in the weeks leading up to the pregnancy.

This also includes refraining from sex for three weeks following embryo implantation.

The surrogate is banned from hot tubs or saunas, can't go near cat litter, won't be allowed to apply hair dye, can only have one caffeinated beverage per day and can't consume raw fish.

TMZ goes on to report that the agreement provides that Kim and Kanye "assume the legal and parental responsibilities for any child ... that may possess any congenital or other abnormalities or defects".

MailOnline have approached the Kardashian/West representative for comment.

Kim's sister Khloé was reportedly planning to offer herself as a surrogate for baby number three.

In a recent episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, the sisters visited a fertility clinic, where Khloé, 32, spoke of her own problems getting pregnant with her now ex-husband Lamar Odom.

Kim Kardashian's surrogate has gone into labour

Missing my squad!! A few of the squad members were MIA this day! This photo was hard enough to even get the kids to stand still for this long 🤣

But Kim had previously "begged" Khloé to consider being her surrogate - something she admitted during an interview with Andy Cohen.

She made it clear that she wanted a third child to add to her brood of North, four, and Saint, one, and that she won't give up.

"I have had to go through multiple things to try and do it on my own. I do not think that is looking good for me but I am not giving up,' she told Andy.

"So it is a process. You kind of see the whole thing on this next season of our show, of me begging Khloé to help out, but I do not want to do that to her."

Kim shared, on the E! reality series, that she would be undergoing surgery to repair a hole in her uterus.

Her current condition is a rare one, and sees the placenta attaching too deeply into the uterine wall.

On top of this, Saint was breech, which added trauma to her labour.

TMZ reported at the time that Kim's delivery last an additional 120 minutes and that complications arose further with her placenta condition.

At the time - November 2015 - she blogged about the stress of the ordeal: "I'm writing this blog while up at 4AM a little anxious for my delivery as I'm entering my 36th week of pregnancy.

Thank you to my babies for choosing me and allowing me to be your mom. You've given me a deep love I can't explain. I'm always here to teach you and protect you! Thank you for making my Mothers Day so special!

"I've surrendered to the placenta issues and actually haven't been thinking too deeply about them lately. However, my latest concern is that my baby is breech, meaning he's in the wrong position for childbirth. His head is still up and it's supposed to be down. He was supposed to turn by 32 weeks."

Of her previous operation, Kim said, in a recent episode of KUWTK: "Kanye was nervous about the surgery and he is glad it's over and that I'm fine.mHe would want to have more kids so Kanye and I are just going to look into other options and see what we're comfortable with."

Other sister Kourtney was seen asking Kim if she was considering using a surrogate, which was the first time the matter was broached.

"I think that I always knew that surrogacy was an option but I didn't think it was that realistic of an option,' Kim replied. 'Now I feel like that's my reality. I feel like surrogacy is really the only other option for me.'Before her surgery took place, Kim spent time with her daughter North at home and talked about wanting to give her a little sister.

"Kanye and I have always talked about having more kids, but after what I went through in Paris, the urgency is like, even greater," she told the cameras.

Kim revealed her robbery ordeal - where she was held at gunpoint in her hotel room last year - had helped her realise she wanted a bigger family.

"Being at home for so many months and just taking work out of the equation and being like a stay at home mom has been so refreshing and I would love nothing more than to expand my family and know that i have this world at home that is safe.

"And if for some reason I left this earth sooner than I really wanted to then my kids would have a support system so that I would know it would be okay if I was not here."

Following surgery, Kim's sisters went to visit Kim and found her in huge discomfort.

Kim told the cameras that there had been 'complications' with her bladder that forced her to get a catheter as she was unable to 'pee on my own.'

"It is super painful and really, really frustrating,' said Kim as she showed Khloé the catheter, who replied: 'I don't want to look at my own vagina let alone someone else's!"

Kim then let the cameras continue to roll as her OBGYN doctor examined her.

Mother Kris then went to visit Kim after she underwent her surgery and the cameras followed her in to the recovery room where Kim was in a hospital gown.

"I had my surgery and the doctors won't know a whole lot until I heal, so it is a waiting game. I definitely am in pain but if the end result is that I get to carry my baby then it was all worth it," she said.

Kim told her mom that she was 'obsessed' with her kids and loved growing up with her own siblings.

'"I'm proud of you because you are so strong, but it just breaks my heart that you're in so much pain,' Kris told her daughter.

"You're going through an awful lot of trauma to your body and emotional stress and I'm just not sure if its worth it. I just don't want you to do something that would put you in great danger."

Kris then told the cameras that Kim had had 'a rough year': "Going through all this surgery on top of all of that, I hope she is not doing all of this for nothing. I really want Kim to be happy and I know how much Kim would love to have another baby but I am worried because it can be very, very dangerous."

Kris had herself offered to carry the child.

In scenes aired on KUWTK last month, 61-year-old Kris explained how her own doctor her told her she no longer has viable eggs, but that doesn't mean she can't carry a baby.

Kim then asked: "Do you want to carry mine?"

Kris replied: "If I really thought that I could carry it for you and it would be born OK, I would do it in two seconds. I really would."

Kourtney also volunteered; she told Kris: "I already offered myself. So, don't act like you're the only Mother Theresa in here!"

Kourtney has three children with her former partner Scott Disick.

But it seems that carrying her own third child is off the cards, if the news reports are accurate.

With Kim's first-ever makeup collection expected to net her US$14 million (NZ$19m) in mere minutes, the fee for the surrogate is a drop in the bucket for the millionairess and her equally wealthy rapper husband.
