A jilted Rotorua music fan whose sad love story and sense of humour attracted 40,000 hits on Trade Me could find new romance if she clinches a deal with her "Eagles Ticket Plus a Date" auction.
Calling herself "Kazza", the woman put a $200 reserve on a singleticket for the band's Saturday concert in Auckland after being ditched by her former love.
"I purchased 2 tickets for my partner's birthday last August," she wrote on the online auction site. "Unfortunately, he has since run off with a woman with a silver car and a very large swimming pool. So here I am, 'The Girl from Yesterday'."
Kazza continued: "If you want to go to the Eagles concert in Auckland and are a fun loving, smiling man between the ages of 59 and 69, and your interests include mountain biking, road trips, beaches, travel, and a crisp sauvignon blanc in the afternoon sun then why not come to the concert with me?"
The heart-warming post drew a massive response, attracting 40,000 hits and scores of questions.
Kazza said the offer included "one complimentary drink at a bar of your choice in the Auckland CBD prior to the concert" but did not include extras: "(perhaps negotiable ... if you have more money than Bill Gates, a better body than Brad Pitt, or are Bernie Leadon). am not that keen on people with very large swimming pools." She said she paid $153 plus booking fee for the tickets.
A week later the single ticket had drawn a bid of $1050. However, she was let down - the last bid was apparently from a Trade Me "troll" who withdrew it in the final minutes.
Stoical in her disappointment, Kazza said: "The default bidder may not wish, and is probably not compelled, to take this up and so the auction is actually unresolved at this stage."
Trade Me spokesman Jeff Hunkin said he had not heard whether Kazza was successful but congratulated the would-be seller on how she conducted the auction in the face of many competitors. "It was special. Her quirky posts capture the imagination and she made a splash."
Mr Hunkin said although it was still early in the year, Kazza's 40,000 hits had a good chance of turning out to be one of the top auctions in terms of viewer numbers.
