Duo in Birkenhead – it never disappoints. It’s great for any meal. The menu and service are always on point, and it has such a nice neighbourhood feel.
Best restaurant for dinner with friends?
Olle in Milford. It’s a Korean fusion spot and one of my absolute favourite places to dine with a group.
The place to take a visitor to?
Piha – it’s just so stunning. I love being there for sunset; it’s always a “pinch me” moment and reminds me how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful part of the world.
Best spot to finish a night out?
I’m not much of a late-night operator, but on the rare occasion the night runs long, the golden arches of McDonald’s are hard to beat.
Best coffee?
Coffee Lab in Wairau Valley. One of the North Shore’s best-kept secrets. They roast onsite, and I take their beans with me whenever I’m overseas to train or compete.
Favourite fish-and-chip shop?
Mairangi Bay Fisheries.
Hiking trail?
Centennial Park in Campbell’s Bay. It’s such a pristine pocket of native bush and makes you feel like you’re a world away from the city.
Venue for a gig?
Some of the best concerts I’ve been to have been at Eden Park. They always do it so well.
Best spot for a bargain?
Superette Surplus in Takapuna. I’ve found some amazing things there, including the dress I wore to the Halberg Awards last year.
