Jemaine Clement takes on Matilda Rice over cheap tweet

Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement has mocked a Bachelor NZ star for being cheap after she admitted refusing a $2 donation to charity.

Clement's tweet was sparked by the Twitter trend #nzsalesassistants, which had users of the social media site owning up to bad experiences with Kiwi sales assistants.

Using the hashtag, Matilda Rice - the winner of TV3 reality show The Bachelor NZ - admitted that she had turned down a $2 donation towards child poverty.

She claimed the sales assistant had called her "a bitch" for declining the opportunity.

Rice wrote: "SA: "would you like to donate an extra $2 to help children in poverty?" Me: "Just the scarf thanks." SA: "Bitch.""

Clement, one-half of Kiwi comedy duo Flight of the Conchords, took aim at Rice's tweet, accusing her of being cheap.

"Was curious what kind of person wouldn't give $2 to kids in poverty. "Account exec at mediaworks". Ah okay," he wrote.

His tweet was approved by Rice, with the reality star retweeting his post. There were eight favourites in the first half-hour of it being posted.

Comedian Guy Williams has also added to the conversation tweeting: "Surely Matilda is joking?"

While the Bachelor himself, Art Green, added jokingly "@MatildaRice that was the scarf you bought for that child in poverty wasn't it?"

Rice, who won Art Green's heart on The Bachelor NZ, was also involved in controversy when Green blackened his face recently to attend Colin Mathura-Jeffree's Bollywood-themed birthday party.

While Jeffree defended Green's costume and said it was in theme, others derided him and compared his outfit to the practice of "blackface," widely considered to be racist.

Rice called Green a "chocolate-covered treat" on Instagram but later deleted the post.
