James Blunt roasts himself alongside announcement he will play Royal Albert Hall in July

Singer James Blunt has proven he's still the king of self-deprecating humour, hilariously roasting himself in a tweet that has since gone viral.

The You're Beautiful singer posted a BBC News article to the platform titled "Singer James Blunt will be the first performer allowed to play a full house since March 2020".

Along with the link, he wrote, "The answer is no. You obviously haven't suffered enough," in a tweet that now has over 24,000 likes.

Blunt will play the iconic Royal Albert Hall on July 6, after the venue has been closed to full audiences since March 17, 2020.

Last year, the singer had an Australian and New Zealand tour planned for November with Jason Mraz, which was cancelled due to Covid.

While he's not had a hit as big as You're Beautiful or Goodbye My Lover in recent years, Blunt has won a legion of fans thanks to his razor-sharp wit on Twitter.

Blunt often mocks his own music to the delight of followers, tweeting in December 2016: "If you thought 2016 was bad, I'm releasing an album in 2017."

And in a television advert for his record The Afterlove, he poked fun at himself by holding hands and reassuring people in group therapy – at a support group for his fans.

Speaking to The Sun he said of the album: "You need to be a brave person to admit to being a James Blunt fan.

"But now fans are giving me grief for not taking myself seriously. They love my music and I've made my best album yet. I'm so proud of it and happy to say that."

Blunt released his latest album, Once Upon A Mind, in 2019, putting out an extended version last year.

In 2018, he had a hilarious response to someone who asked him how he managed to get an invite to Harry and Meghan's wedding.

Many people were confused as to why the singer was a guest at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's nuptials at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle.

One user, @Zoeinthesky, asked: "Who invited James Blunt to the royal wedding?"

Blunt shot back: "I'll give you two guesses."

While the star may seem an odd choice to attend the nuptials, he is in fact a friend of the royal groom.

He served in the army with Prince Harry and was personally invited by him to attend the Invictus Games.

James attended the big day with his wife Sofia Wellesley, who he married in 2014.
