Heather du Plessis-Allan's new role on Newstalk ZB revealed

Heather du Plessis-Allan will take up a new presenting role on ZB in 2018.

Heather du Plessis-Allan is on the move, heading to a morning radio role at Newstalk ZB in 2018.

The former Story host will take over from Tim Fookes to present Mornings in Wellington, Kapiti and Masterton.

She'll be on air from 8.30am-midday from January 22.

It's the latest career move for du Plessis-Allan, who has a lengthy career in broadcasting, from reporting for One News and Seven Sharp to hosting Three's Story and writing for the Herald on Sunday.

She says she's looking forward to being able to broadcast from Wellington, a place she considers home.

"I've reported from as far afield as Antarctica and Gallipoli, but I always come home to Wellington. I've lived there for more than a decade now, so it's with conviction I can say the best spot is Lyall Bay on a windless day," she says.

"I can't wait to start the new role and get chatting with the local community about issues important to them."

Fookes, who is heading to Australia, predicted du Plessis-Allan would be fantastic in his spot.

"My wife and I have made the decision to return to Australia to be closer to her family, and we look forward to the next chapter in our lives," he said.

"I have no doubt Heather will be a fantastic addition to Newstalk ZB in the capital and I wish her all the very best."

Du Plessis-Allan left Story at the end of last year when it was replaced with The Project.
