The final photo shows Emily (Kelly Bishop) sitting in a chair in repose, looking immaculate. Things will be a bit different for her character this time around without her husband Richard, played by Edward Hermann, who died in 2014.
Technically, this won't be a new season but four 90-minute movies and fans have been rejoicing because Gilmore Girls original creator and showrunner, Amy Sherman-Palladino, has signed on for all four.
Sherman-Palladino wasn't involved in the last season of the hit comedy drama, much to the chagrin of the show's fans.
According to TV Line there is still hope that superstar Melissa McCarthy could reprise her role as chef Sookie.
The actress revealed earlier this year that she hadn't been asked to return but in the Entertainment Weekly article, Sherman-Palladino extends the invitation to the star.
"We've just put it out into the universe; we're here until May 10," she said.
"I know what the scene is. Ill pre-light it for her. She can drive up, run in, shoot it, and run out. I can get her in and out in two hours."
McCarthy is expected to confirm her return to the show during an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show on Friday, reports TV Line.
