The latest Star Wars saga has been put to the George Lucas test - and it passed.
His verdict on The Force Awakens comes via Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy who told The Hollywood Reporter, "he really liked it".
Lucas sold his company to Disney four years ago and had nopart in the latest film, though it had been difficult to walk away from the Star Wars franchise he created.
Lucas explained in an interview with the Washington Post he could not be in the background without directly taking charge and needed to make a clean break.
"There is no such thing as working over someone's shoulder," he told Washington Post.
"They decided they were going to do their own thing so I decided, 'fine. ... I'll go my way and I let them go their way'," he said before seeing the film.
Star Wars fans were skeptical as to whether Lucas would come out in support of Force Awakens, though he was determined to see the flick.
"I'm going to have to take a very deep breath and be a good person and sit through it and just enjoy the moment," he said speaking to the Washington Post.
Lucas is now among a select few to have seen the finished product in its polished form.
