Everyone is hating on the new Huntsman film

Another new movie has joined the ranks of films being slammed by critics in 2016.

First it was mixed reviews over Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, then it was the critics' take-down of the third Divergent movie, Allegiant. Now critics are piling hate on The Huntsman: Winter's War.

Directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, who also worked on the original 2012 film Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Kristen Stewart, The Huntsman is turning out to be the movie that no one really wanted.

So far the film has received a pitiful 22 per cent approval rating from reviewers on the website RottenTomatoes.com.

Cath Clarke from the UK's Time Out said the film - which stars high profile stars, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain - "feels like a Russian oligarch has thrown a 'Game of Thrones' party and hired his favourite Hollywood actors to come in fancy dress".

The Guardian wrote: "It is the follow-up that nobody much wanted to the film that nobody much liked, resulting in something even more visually elaborate and boring, and about which the number of tosses that can be reasonably given is lower than ever."

"Doubled-up diva-tude, however, can't ignite a rhythmically flat, seemingly committee-helmed franchise outing that never decides on its dramatic centre," Variety said.

The Hollywood Reporter praised the films costume designs, but not much else, writing: "Great costumes can't quite compensate for a lacklustre concept." The List noted that: "Some fairytales 'never truly end' intones Liam Neeson's narrator - unfortunately, this franchise feels like it has indeed run its course."
