Well, this.
Yes, it's easy to forget but on their last album cycle, for Wasting Light, the Foos played a benefit concert at Auckland's Town Hall, an epic three-hour show for Christchurch that included Grohl running around the venue's upper bowl playing the riff for Stacked Actors, rocking out next to Rhys Darby and kissing an over-eager Kiwi fan.
It was an epic night, and one that fans had payed up to $250 to see. Grohl liked it too. In fact, he liked it so much that when the Foos returned later that year for their Western Springs stadium show, he called it "one of the best shows we ever played".
You know what else he promised?
"You have my word that the next time we come back to this city, we'll play that Town Hall again," he said during an acoustic sing-along of Wheels. "We'll come back and we'll play that f***ing Town Hall and you know what? Maybe next time we'll play for four f**king hours.
"We'll see you at the Town Hall. How about that s***?"
Don't believe me? Here's the video footage to prove it (it starts around the seven-minute mark):
I know it feels selfish to complain when Grohl is giving fans so much Foo Fighters at the moment. The last thing on his mind is something he said on the fly to a bunch of Kiwis during one of several hundred shows he's played over the last few years.
But a promise is a promise. Oi, Foo Fighters, where's our Town Hall show?
