DJ Calvin Harris has stepped up to defend his girlfriend Taylor Swift after she got some bad blood from former One Direction singer Zayn Malik on Twitter.
Malik retweeted a fan's post that compared Swift's view on streaming music to Miley Cyrus's attitude. Swift is notably absent from Spotify, butfans can pay to download her music from iTunes. Yet Cyrus said she's made enough money and doesn't care if people buy her albums.
Harris immediately took offence to Malik's retweet and went in to bat for his girl.
"@FemaleTexts @zaynmalik You've made your money? Cool...f***the 99 per cent of musicians who depend on these services to survive right? Yeah f***em," Harris tweeted to his 6.42 million followers.
"If u don't get what it means when a successful artist uses their celebrity to benefit every other musician and songwriter in the industry..." he continued, "...stay out my f***in mentions pls."
Harris and Swift are one of the highest-earning celebrity couples. In June Swift wrote an open letter to Apple complaining that the company was streaming music without paying the musicians. Apple did a backflip and said it would "pay artists for streaming, even during customer's free trial period."
Malik wasn't put off my Harris' Twitter rant.
"Ha you just made an absolute fool of yourself mate," Malik replied. "You clearly didn't understand what I just said either."
