Dr Terry Dubrow is famous for fixing plastic surgeries gone wrong, but now he says a former patient is demanding US$5 million ($7.5m) for a procedure that, according to the patient, went horribly wrong.
According to legal documents obtained by Page Six, Sandy Scoggins had a buttock lift surgery by Dubrow and wants him to pay her the huge sum in exchange for not going public with her negligence claims. The surgery was not a part of the E! reality show.
Dubrow claimed the woman was prepared to file a federal lawsuit "so she can tell the world what happened to her", the court documents said. What's more, the celebrity surgeon says the woman's lawyer sent him a 901-page document full of demands and the request for the multi-million dollar pre-litigation settlement. Scoggins said she was prepared to file a federal lawsuit, report him to the California Medical Board, and tell her story to the media.
Scoggins' lawyer Stephen Le Brocq told the publication she was "botched by Botched", and accused the surgeon of rushing the procedure.
"Dubrow's operation was so incredibly incompetent that not only did our client's wounds tear open immediately after her six-figure surgery, but she also developed sepsis and nearly died from Dubrow's negligence on multiple occasions.
"On top of that, Dubrow left medical equipment used during the surgery in our client's body, presumably because he was rushing to complete the procedure to get to filming his TV show. A camera crew for Botched was rushing Dubrow to finish with our client's surgery since his show was about to start filming a new patient.
"Instead of doing the right thing and accepting responsibility for his gross incompetence, he makes claims of extortion," the lawyer said.
"The truth is Dubrow rushed a surgery, nearly killed an innocent woman, and guaranteed this woman's life will never be the same again."
The popular E! show Botched features Dubrow and fellow celebrity surgeon Paul Nassif, who help correct plastic surgeries gone wrong. Dubrow's wife, actress Heather Dubrow appeared on the reality show The Real Housewives of Orange County.
