Beyoncé has felt musically "liberated" by motherhood.
The singer - who has a 23-month-old daughter Blue Ivy with husband Jay Z - recently released her self-titled fifth album with no promotion, and she has admitted to becoming more comfortable with some of the more personal lyrics.
Speaking to fans via her Instagram account at a screening for the album's accompanying music videos, the star revealed becoming a mother helped her open up more on record.
She said: "I'm very private and I'm very respectful, and I think it just took me no longer being someone's child - once I became a mother, I felt like I could tear those fourth walls and I just felt like it was time. I completely feel liberated."
The record's unique format - which include music videos for each of its 14 tracks - was a risk but came from being bored after her album '4' from 2011.
