Angry Kanye gives bonkers interview to Kiwi DJ

Kanye West has cemented his reputation as one of the most highly quotable celebrities in the world with a bonkers, fired up interview with Kiwi DJ Zane Lowe.

West did not disappoint in his BBC Radio 1 interview with Lowe this week, which has set the internet ablaze with his trademark braggadocio and verbal creativity.

The 36-year-old rapper ranted about Lady Gaga dabbling in the world of photography, his self-identification as a living "god", and his role in the creation of the "leather jogging pant".

And one point, West told Lowe off for "not understanding what I'm saying" during a rant about not being able to achieve as much as wanted to. "But I'm trying to," Lowe, a former hip-hop musician in the Kiwi band Urban Disturbance, retorted.

The All Of The Lights singer hit out at what he perceived to be a racist response to his song I Am A God from of his latest album Yeezus with an hourlong interview with BBC Radio 1.

West said people might ask him who he thinks he is calling himself a god, but the rapper has an answer to that question: "I just told you who I thought I was: A god. I just told you. That's who I think I am.

"Would it have been better if I had a song that said, 'I am a gangster' or if I had a song that said, 'I am a pimp?' All those colours and patinas fit better on a person like me, right?

'But to say you are a god, especially when you got shipped over to the country that you're in, and your last name is a slave owner's. How could you say that? How could you have that mentality?"

The genre-breaking hip-hop icon also mused on fellow artist Lady Gaga and the new direction her career is taking as the creative director of a specialty line of imaging products for Polaroid.

West admitted: "I like some of the Gaga songs."

But quickly added his confusion over her role with the camera giant: "What the f*** does she know about cameras?"

But West would like to make a similar transition in his own career - to fashion.

The hitmaker said that he has been dedicating 80 per cent of his time to breaking into the fashion world as he and his advisor Virgil Abloh have been going to Rome "giving designs to Fendi, over and over, and getting our designs knocked down".

And he appeared to have a bit of a chip on his shoulder over having one of his premonitory sartorial visions knocked down: "[We] brought the leather jogging pants six years ago to Fendi, and they said 'no.' How many mo*********** you done seen with a leather jogging pant?"

Regarding his girlfriend Kim Kardashian, who is said to be worth around $40 million, he only had good things to say.

"She was in a powerful enough situation, where she could love me without asking me for my money, which is really hard for me to find.

"She gave me everything. She gave me a family. She gave me a support system," he said of the 32-year-old Keeping Up With The Kardashians star.

The music star also spoke about the couple's baby North West, stating that in a few years, his three-month-old daughter should be paid every time her image is sold by a photographer.

"You see all these cheques you're getting age six because people are taking your picture, you don't have to worry about a thing ever again just because people want to take your picture, and I made that happen Nori," he said.

Kanye was promoting his latest album Yeezus, which, since its release in June, topped the charts in the US, UK, Australia and Canada, giving Kanye his sixth consecutive No. 1 album.

He said he had reached perfection with his previous record My Beautiul Dark Twisted Fantasy, but with Yeezus he wanted to push boundaries.

"Dark Fantasy can be considered to be perfect. I know how to make perfect, but that's not what I'm here to do. I'm here to crack the pavement and make new grounds sonically and in society, culturally."

He also credited Michael Jackson for clearing the path for black artists in music.

"I would not be Kanye West if it wasn't for Michael Jackson. He had to fight to get his video played because he was black," he said.

He even said he had in some respects transcended the King Of Pop's achievements.

"I've got to a point that Michael Jackson did not break down. I have reached the glass ceiling, as a creative person, as a celebrity ... and I've been at it for 10 years," he said.

"I look around and I say, 'Wait a minute. There's no one around here in that looks like me. And if they are, they're quiet as f***.' So that means, wait a second - now we're seriously like, in a civil rights movement."

He also said he envies friend and mentor Jay Z's success.

"Jay Z is more realised than me. More of his dreams and aspirations have come true," Kanye said. "You don't realise - I am so frustrated. Like, I've got so much I want to give ... And I've got a million people telling me why I can't do it."

West is anything but bashful, and ended the interview in typical self-aggrandising fashion.

"Rap's the new rock 'n roll. We the rock stars and I'm the biggest of all them," he declared.
