Fresh this week: All your Autumn favourites are looking good at New World this week with tomatoes, eggplant, courgettes, capsicums, pumpkin, buttercup, sweetcorn and beans in good supply. Apples, pears and plums rule the fruit department.

Look out for: March heralds the start of Bluff Oyster season and you'll find them in most New World stores, but beware they're always in high demand inthe first month of the season.

Try it in: Now that the weather is cool enough to endure a little heat coming from the oven, it's time to slow roast your tomatoes: Line a large baking tray with baking paper, slice tomatoes in half, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and sugar and bake at 150C for 1½ to 2 hours depending on the size of the tomatoes. Roasting intensifies tomatoes' flavours and they will keep for up to a week in a sealed container in the fridge. Enjoy them hot or cold for salads, sandwiches, as an accompaniment to meat or fish, to toss through pasta, on toast for breakfast and for snacking in general… at any time.

Moving on: Avocados are once again a luxury item and the bad news is we have to wait until July for supply and pricing to be back in our favour. The good news is Pams guacamole is here to fill the gap. It's delicious (we may never make our own again!) and made with fresh ingredients – each 225g pack contains the flesh of 3 avocados. Look for it in the chiller department at your local New World
