Join Herald NOW Business with Garth Bray live from 6.30 - 7 am weekdays starting Monday, March 16, here on nzherald.co.nz
I told Sir Stephen Tindall we’re launching a business news programme, at 6.30am every weekday, and I asked The Warehouse founder, philanthropist and Rocket Lab backer if it was the right time.
I’ll tell you what he said after I tell you what I meant.

Is it theright time for business news to have a voice, for people to see founders and leaders of enterprise and hear from experts and clear-eyed analysts who cover them closely?
I believe the answer is yes, and that’s one reason I can see success for Herald NOW Business.
It’s a yes to asking what we’ve woken up to and why that happens, what it takes to grow our economy, and how we get more out of what we put in, and a yes to asking the people who are trying to do that, face to face.
There’s another reason I can see success for Herald NOW Business.

I’ve been working alongside an absolute powerhouse of editorial talent covering business here at NZME. They’re experts. When they call a business leader, that chief executive can see who’s calling; it’s a trusted journalist, someone who’s written about their work and knows how to speak their language.
They’re going to help us answer some of those big questions, and I’d like you to get to know them better. They’re funny, smart and well worth your time.
Thirty minutes every morning, live. Or one interview at a time, whenever you have that time to invest. Well worth it.
So, what did Sir Stephen say when I asked him if it was the right time?
He laughed. “6.30am? That’s my afternoon teatime!”
Touché.
If that’s what it takes, I’m up for it. And Sir Stephen – thanks for all of those suggestions as to who we should be speaking to on the show. I’ll see you here soon, too.
