Village Sky City Cinemas said today it plans to open a new nine screen cinema multiplex at the Westfield Queensgate retail complex in Lower Hutt.
Village Sky City Cinemas, substantially owned by Sky City Leisure, said the development, the company's second new complex, was part of a $140 million redevelopment of
the Westfield Queensgate site.
The new multiplex will offer a total of 1722 seats, with a 360-seat large screen cinema and two 40-seat premium "Gold Class" cinemas.
Village SkyCity Cinemas chief executive, Joe Moodabe, said the Lower Hutt development followed his company's 1999 agreement with Westfield to integrate cinemas in shopping centres.
The integration began with Auckland's Westcity and St Lukes and further developments were scheduled to take place throughout New Zealand "over the next few years", Mr Moodabe said in a statement.
