Compliance costs, skills shortages and business mentoring are among issues contained in the first annual report of the Small Business Advisory Group.
The group will present the document, with recommendations, to Small Business Minister John Tamihere on Wednesday.
While the report is being kept under wraps for now, it is
understood to contain suggestions on cutting compliance costs, workforce training and providing more help for the free business mentoring service Business in the Community.
The effectiveness of the nine-person group was questioned this year by Richard Prebble. The then Act leader said Government briefing papers on the group's first meeting showed that it had told the Government that changes to the Employment Relations Act on the sale or transfer of businesses or contracts, and to the Holidays Act to provide for a minimum of four weeks' leave, were not needed. Both policies went ahead.
