Lines company Network Waitaki has embarked on a publicity campaign ahead of deciding whether or not to accept a $57 million takeover offer by Dunedin City Council-owned Aurora Energy.
On Friday, Network Waitaki began "releasing information" to its 11,500 consumers about its role in the North Otago Community.
The Aurora offer has so far gained little support from community leaders, Network Waitaki officials, and candidates for the Waitaki Power Trust.
The trust, which has its elections in June, holds the consumers' shares in Network Waitaki.
Aurora has claimed consumers would benefit from a payout if the Network Waitaki's assets were sold.
It was willing to talk with business groups.
Network Waitaki is owned by local consumers, with all shares held on their behalf by the trust.
The Network Waitaki board met last week but postponed making a recommendation on Aurora's offer.
Chairman Lindsay Malcolm said the lines company was locally owned, provided local jobs and put money back into the local economy.
He said the campaign was to keep the public informed.
