The tight labour market pushed job advertising to record levels once again during November and firms continued to turn to the internet in their efforts to find staff, latest job advertising figures show.
The number of job adverts in newspapers and on the internet rose a seasonally adjusted 1 per cent in November and are now 17.1 per cent up on 12 months ago, according to the latest ANZ Job Ads Survey .
The number of job ads in major newspapers increased 1.9 per cent to 34,848 after a 1.1 per cent rise in September.
November newspaper job ads were now up 14.4 per cent on the same month last year.
But although internet job advertising eased by 1 per cent over the month, ANZ economist John Bolsover said it remained at a historically high level.
Job advertisements on the sites monitored by the ANZ had risen by 23.9 per cent in the year, he said.
Bolsover said employers were experiencing difficulty finding suitable applicants for vacancies at all skill levels.
"Consequently, labour market pressures are likely to linger for some time yet."
On a regional basis, newspaper job ads rose most strongly in Canterbury and Manawatu, while Waikato experienced its third consecutive monthly decline, falling 2.7 per cent over the month.
