New Year Honours: Morrison dedicates award to his team

Lloyd Morrison - on holiday in the South Island - says he is pleased to be included in a New Year Honours list with such a strong list of business peers.

Thrilled to hear of the knighthood for Douglas Myers and John Bongard being made an officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit, Morrison said he would accept his award on behalf of his team at Infratil and Morrison & Co.

"I don't see this as an individual thing," he said. "It is more a reflection of the strength of those two organisations."

Morrison has been made a companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to business over more than 20 years.

In 1988 he founded Morrison & Co, an investment company that now manages more than $5 billion of assets. It specialises in infrastructure and is the major shareholder of listed company Infratil.

Morrison is a director of Infratil, Auckland International Airport, Fisher Funds Management and Trustpower.

The New Zealand Herald Business Leader of the Year in 2006, Morrison is also a keen supporter of the arts through the HRL Morrison Music and Arts Trusts. He also served as trustee on the Chamber Music New Zealand Foundation and as a director of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra board.

In the past year Morrison has had to battle cancer. Since October he has been back in the office part time and continues to dedicate himself to the Measurable Goal for New Zealand campaign, which promotes positive economic transformation as a means to improve the living standards of all New Zealanders.

Morrison said yesterday he was fired up for the new year and felt the best was yet to come for Infratil and Morrison & Co. "We're only just getting started."
