Qantas to lift fares

Qantas Airways will increase ticket prices for domestic, transtasman and regional services from February 25 in response to high fuel costs.

Yesterday's announcement follows the airline's decision last week to lift fuel surcharges on its international flights.

Chief executive Alan Joyce said a "modest fare increase" was the best way to recover some of the higher cost of fuel. Fare increases will be up to 5 per cent.

According to a list of eight examples included in the Qantas statement, fare increases would range between A$4 ($5.24) and A$10 per one-way ticket.
