Manurewa High School harvested the top trophies at at last week's MIT Manukau City Science and Technology Fair awards.
Anne Sim, a year 13 student at Manurewa High School, has won the Premier Award for Best Exhibit as well as first prize in the Senior Science Category, and the prize for
the Best Year 13 Investigation. Miss Sim's project investigated the role algae could play in
reducing carbon emissions from industrial stacks.
She was earlier featured in The Aucklander as one of 12 students from New Zealand who attended the Brisbane Biofuture Conference in July.
"Anne has already demonstrated a passion and flair for science. Her commitment is second to none, which is why she has earned this top award,'' says Mrs Fenella Colyer, Miss Sim's science teacher and mentor .
Of 19 participating schools, Manurewa High School won 'Best Project in Year' awards for years 10, 11, 12 and 13. Other students who received awards included:
Manurewa High School's deputy principal Daniel Wilson says the school's success at the Science and Technology Fair is a combination of hard work by students and a talented
team of staff within the school's Science Department.
