At last, councillor Greg Moyle's attempt to "clarify' the saga of reviving the Grey Lynn Park upgrade (Letters, 18 September), has confirmed the essence of what I have been saying all along.
Contrary to the official line that there were no funds available for Grey Lynn Park until at least 2011, I suspected that there was money available much sooner.
It has taken many weeks to verify this, but now we have confirmation of substantial funds which can only be spent in Western Bays.
Since beginning the Grey Lynn Park upgrade nearly 10 years ago, it has been a high priority for the Western Bays Community Board, and remains our first preference for funding until it is completed.
Officials now agree that the $597,000 remaining in the Western Bays FinCon Account should go into Grey Lynn Park next year.
They also recommend a further $500,000 over the following two years to complete the plan agreed to and funded back in 2003.
Thanks to the Grey Lynn Park Advisory Group for its vigilance in raising this matter.
