A popular brand of shaved ham is being recalled for fear it may contain listeria.
The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) says Premier Beehive NZ Ltd is recalling Beehive Shaved Champagne Ham (200g Family Pack) because it may contain listeria bacteria.
"The product was sold in 200g plastic packs at Countdown, New World, Pak'n Save and Fresh Choice stores throughout the North Island," MPI reported. "It has a use-by date of 26 Jan 2016 and batch number 335322," it said.
Food contaminated with listeria can cause serious illness, even if it does not appear or smell unusual. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, ongoing fever, severe headaches and neck stiffness.
Those most at risk include the elderly, people with weak immune systems, pregnant women and newborns.
