We've had dustings of snow and squalls of wind and rain, mild afternoons and bitterly cold nights that gave way to beautiful bluebird days.
None of that is unknown - It's a changeable time of year. But the weather this late autumn weekend will be a classic for the season, the Metservice says.
Meteorologist Tom Adams said a front coming in from the south-west and lows from the west and north would deliver an unsettled weekend for the country.
"Changeable is the way to describe it."
And messy.
Rain would fall in most places, although there would be fine patches mixed in, Adams said.
The Bay of Plenty would, unusually, be worst hit, with heavy falls expected there and possibly into Coromandel on Saturday, he said.
The South Island would escape the worst of the weather, with those on its east coast likely to see the best weather by Sunday.
The fog which blanketed Auckland this morning, affecting more than 100 flights in and out of Auckland Airport, has now cleared and the city was likely to escape a return tomorrow, Adams said.
But Waikato and parts of the Central North Island, including Taupo and Rotorua, were expected to again feel the effects of fog.
Wind in Wellington would prevent it enveloping the capital, he said.
