Could Todd Carney be eyeing an NRL return?

Carney has been officially released by Super League club Catalans Dragons along with fellow Australian Dave Taylor and French international Morgan Escare.

Taylor has signed a trial deal with the Raiders while Escare will join Wigan, but there is no definitive news on Carney's future as of yet.

The former Origin five-eighth has spent the past two seasons playing for the French club after being sacked by Cronulla midway through 2014.

It is uncertain if any NRL clubs will take a chance on Carney due to the difficulties regarding his registration and chequered past.

The Dragons were linked to the 2010 Dally M winner but are understood to be exploring other options.

Carney played 33 matches in an injury-riddled two years in France.

The 30-year old has played 166 NRL matches for Canberra, the Roosters and Cronulla since his debut in 2006.
