Police are investigating the circumstances that led to a body being found in the Makarora River in Otago last night.
"Initial inquiries indicate the death is not suspicious and police are not looking for anyone else in relation to this matter," a police spokeswoman said.
The body was located about 5.15pm yesterday.
"Police were called to the Makarora River, Makarora, after the discovery of an object in the water.
Police are in the process of notifying the person's next of kin.
The death has been referred to the Coroner.

Police said two trampers were reported missing at the same time about 100km away but they were later found safe and sound in their homes.
