A woman has claimed she was brutally attacked while walking her dog in Remuera last week.
Auckland Police are investigating the alleged assault, that happened about 5.30pm on August 4, on Shore Rd.
Police would not go into details but a local businesswoman has urged people in the area to be alert, after a customer revealed she had been attacked at the Shore Rd park.
Carole Bowden said the woman, who was a regular at her florist shop, told her she had been the victim of a "brutal attack'' while walking her dog.
It is understood the attack may have been sexually motivated.
"She has been left shaken, bruised and bleeding. The offender has not been caught. Please let's all be super careful and let everyone know so we can feel safe in our neighbourhood," Bowden said.
A woman walking at the park on Monday evening said she had been met by a police officer who asked whether she had been approached by anyone.
"I was there on Friday evening too, as I am there regularly. This is hideous news. You just can't take feeling safe for granted."
Auckland Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Baldwin appealed to anyone who may have seen or know anything about the attack to get in touch immediately.
"Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, which includes conducting area searches and have a number of inquiries which are ongoing."
Last January, Joanne Pert, 41, was attacked and killed while jogging on the same road.
Police arrested Tevita Filo, who was later found not guilty of her murder by reason of insanity.
