A man who allegedly pulled a gun on a police officer has been arrested.
Police had been hunting 25-year-old Hayden Rizvi after he allegedly pointed a firearm at an officer who was chasing him on foot yesterday.
He was taken into custody in the toilets of a fast-food outlet on Manukau Road, in Epsom, this afternoon.
Police said they were speaking with him now and would confirm what charges he will face later today.
Police thanked the media for their help with the search.
"We would also like to thank the many members of the public who have expressed their support for our staff."
Rizvi is alleged to have stolen a car from Selwyn St, in Onehunga, when he was spotted by a police officer, who chased him.
As the officer chased Rizvi, he is alleged to have stopped before pointing a gun in the officer's face.
Auckland City Inspector Jacqui Whittaker said earlier the officer was unhurt, but shaken and was now being supported.
"Having a gun pointed in your face should not be seen as being just part of the job,'' Whittaker said.
