A 12-year-old boy riding a scooter has been critically injured after being struck by a car on the North Shore this afternoon, police say.
A police spokeswoman said early indications were the boy was injured after he lost control of his scooter while riding down a hill and went into the path of an oncoming vehicle at the intersection of Cottam Grove and Topliss Drive, in Northcross.
Emergency services were alerted about 3.40pm.
The child had been taken to Starship Hospital in a serious condition and was currently status 1, the spokeswoman said.
The Waitemata Serious Crash Unit attended the scene.
An Auckland District Health Board spokeswoman confirmed the child had been taken to Starship.
He remained in a critical condition last night, she said.
