Police are responding to reports of a knife-point robbery at a Tauranga liquor store.

Sergeant Phil Wilkinson said initial reports were that a man had gone into Greeton Liquor with a knife and demanded cigarettes.

Police were at the scene, he said.

A reporter at the scene said police were inside the store talking to a staff member.

The shop has been closed.
