The funeral for slain Auckland jogger Jo Pert has taken place in Raetihi.

Ms Pert, 41, was allegedly attacked while out on her morning run through the affluent suburb of Remuera on Thursday.

Today, distraught family and friends gathered at The Centre in Raetihi to pay their respects to the mother of two.

The service began at 1pm, when close to 100 people poured into the service.

There was a very sombre mood in the small town, with local cafes busy as Ms Pert's loved ones waited for the service to begin.

Most of those arriving were dressed in black with dark sunglasses.

After the service, that lasted about 80 minutes, the hearse left The Centre and was followed by a convoy of SUVs and a minibus.

The procession drove slowly out of the town along State Highway 4 toward Ms Pert's hometown, Whanganui.

It was understood an internment will take place in Whanganui tomorrow.
