Police have named a man who died after crashing into a fallen tree across a Taumarunui road early this morning.
He was Herbert Lennon, 58, from Tokoroa.
Mr Lennon was killed when his car smashed into the tree on State Highway 43 shortly before 1am.
The weather and the lack of street lighting were likely to have contributed to the crash, Sergeant Craig Hawkins of Taumarunui police said.
"We do get a lot of trees over the roads in winter time around here."
