An elderly woman, who was rescued after her car plunged into the Whanganui River on Monday morning, has died.
Hilary Guilford, aged 83, was admitted to the intensive care unit at Wanganui Hospital after her car was found partially submerged in the water close to Wharf St, Castlecliff.
However, she never recovered consciousness and died overnight on Tuesday, said Senior Sergeant Dave Kirby, of Wanganui police.
The incident was not considered suspicious and the matter had been referred to the coroner, he said.
