A police employee has unwittingly passed on an email hoax about carjackings, lending credibility to it.
The email gained the police staff member's details and police logo as it was passed on, police spokesman Rob Lee said.
The email warned people to look for a piece of paper stuck to their rear window as they back out of parking spaces. "The scenario suggests people then get out of their vehicle to remove the piece of paper, leaving keys in the ignition [and] ... other valuables in the car," Mr Lee said. "When the vehicle owner gets out of their car, waiting 'offenders' then take the car and its contents."
He said the staff member had been spoken to.
