KEY POINTS:
The parents of a man who collapsed on a central Auckland street and later died have called for anyone with information about his death to help the police investigation.
Edward Hinchcliff, 24, suffered a brain aneurism after collapsing near the intersection of Hobson and Victoria Sts about 2.45pm on Thursday.
He was the son of former Auckland City councillor and AUT president John Hinchcliff and his wife Laurie, and nephew of Sir Geoffrey Palmer.
Dr and Mrs Hinchcliff last night issued a brief statement thanking everyone who had sent support and condolences at such a difficult time.
They also appealed for more information about the circumstances surrounding their son's death. "We urge anyone who has any further information about this tragedy to please provide it to the police."
Detectives, who are trying to find Mr Hinchcliff's white Mazda Familia station wagon, registration CSS949, do not consider his death to be suspicious.
But Auckland City field crime manager Detective Inspector Scott Beard said police still needed to know how he received facial injuries.
Mr Beard said a witness saw Mr Hinchcliff collapse near SkyCity.
Police believe he had earlier been assaulted.
Anyone with information is asked to call Auckland police on (09) 302-6400.
